Meditation & Unplugging

Well, here we were, just set and ready for 2026, and suddenly, it’s April 1st. I have been continuing my journey in resilience, taking the time to be intentional and to reflect on what’s working to build my heart and positive mindset. I’ll share insights throughout April with the hope that they will resonate and be helpful along your way.

The lesson to “pause not quit” is one I seem to learn again and again. In case you think we learn our lessons and then move on feeling “evolved” and “fixed.” That’s never been true for me. I’m a work in progress, more evolving than evolved. This time, a pause led me to discover new ways to meditate – something I’ve never been good at – using sounds and focusing on physical sensations. This meditation crystallized what my body and heart were craving in order to move forward.  I was fortunate to work with Michelle Woerdeman at Happy Mind Happy Life and highly recommend her if you’re looking for a meditation partner. Aha #1: Who knew there were so many forms of meditation? Why not check out a new way to meditate, attend a retreat to reflect and/or get in touch with nature to refresh your energy, focus and intention?

Aha #2 came after totally unplugging for 9 days for the first time in a number of years. Even though I believe it’s important to unplug, I somehow had convinced myself that it didn’t apply to me. My life was “integrated” with little need to get away completely. After all, I can manage my own time to rest and rejuvenate anytime I need to, right? I discovered they are not the same. I would need to be at my very best to succeed in a new venture while facing an unexpected health challenge. My work with Happy Mind Happy Life helped me realize that I was more depleted than I knew and helped me focus hitting my pause button on energy renewal and sustaining momentum through ups and downs.

Of course, my time away resulted in that dreaded feeling of being so behind when I returned that it would barely be 10 minutes before this new refreshed state was a distant memory. Then came my third and even bigger AHA. PACING is everything! Stay tuned for next week’s post, and how one word can be a game changer.

In the meantime, take your own moment to stop and feel your body and heart. What are you grateful for? What does your spirit need most today? Give yourself permission!
